Inspiring Executive Team Commitment

You want your organization to go beyond good, you want them to be Great. If everybody knew how, we would all have great cultures. It’s not easy achieving greatness.

Recently, the Thought Leadership League conducted a survey of executives asking what factors lead to a good culture. When asked to pick the factors that contribute to a great culture, 86% of all participants selected as one of the most important Executive Team Commitment.

The question is, how do we inspire executive team commitment? How do you get your executive team to be emotionally committed to the vision and goals of the company?

Zenger/Folkman, through their research, has identified the nine behaviors that, if improved, will have the greatest impact on commitment:

  1. Inspire and Motivate Others

  2. Drive for Results

  3. Strategic Perspective

  4. Collaboration

  5. Walk the Talk

  6. Trust

  7. Develop and Support Others

  8. Building Relationships

  9. Courage

These nine steps may not be the end all, be all for you to inspire executive commitment in your organization. You may be able to add to or delete from this list. But they are a start. Examining how to model these behaviors and keeping them in the forefront of your culture is a big step towards greatness.

Great companies don’t settle for good culture. They strive to be beyond good, beyond great, they strive to have an ELITE culture. The challenge is to push beyond the typical outline of what is good and to achieve a “best in class” attitude and action that permeates the whole organization.
